Multitasking in our Schools.

We are a part of a society where we are constantly working on different projects at once. We will be  brushing our teeth, putting on our shoes, and texting our best friend all at the same time. Multitasking can be effective, but is it appropriate for our education program. Research from Leo Wildrich states, "...multitasking splits the brain. It creates something researchers have called "spotlights"." What our brain does is switch from the different activities without actually processing what we are doing. Leo says, "People who multitask a lot are in fact a lot worse at filtering irrelevant information and also perform significantly worse at switching between task, compared to single-taskers." So what does this mean for our education program? School systems that allow for their students to be on their phones, surfing the web,  while taking notes are flawed. A student who is on their phone is not retaining any of the information in their notes. It is hard for a teenager's brain to process information already because it is not fully developed, so allowing them to multitask is not helping them to learn the information.
